CODE OF CONDUCT FOR THE ISPT
In light of being a 'calling' requiring specialized knowledge, tracking has
the potential of becoming a globally accepted profession. The privilege of a
being viewed as a professional in practice requires the establishment and
adherence to a code. This code suggests deportment to an acknowledged level
of morality and competent creditability as well as a level of qualified
actions on the part of each practitioner.
RESPONSIBILITY TO THE PUBLIC
An ISPT member shall:
... Recognize a commitment to represent tracking and its results in a
responsible manner;
... Actively support expansion of the tracking resources in your area;
... Be sensitive to and respect the concerns of groups whose cultural
histories are the subject of tracking;
... Avoid and discourage exaggerated, misleading, or unwarranted statements
about tracking matters;
... Avoid and discourage the use of tracking skills while engaging or
participating in unethical or illegal activity;
An ISPT member shall not:
... Give a professional opinion, make a public report, or give legal
testimony involving tracking matters without being as thoroughly informed as
might reasonably be expected;
... Undertake any tracking for which she/he is not qualified.
RESPONSIBILITY TO OTHER ISPT COLLEAGUES AND STUDENTS OF TRACKING An ISPT member shall:
... Give appropriate credit for work done by others;
... Stay informed and knowledgeable about developments in her/his field or
fields of specialization;
... Communicate and cooperate with colleagues having common professional
interests;
... Honor and comply with the spirit and letter of ISPT's Mission Statement;
An ISPT member shall not:
... Submit a false or misleading application for accreditation by, for, or
on behalf of the membership of the International Society of Professional
Trackers;
THE TRACKER'S RESPONSIBILITY TO EMPLOYERS AND CLIENTS
An ISPT member shall:
... Respect the interests of her/his employer or client, so far as is
consistent with public welfare and this Code;
... Refuse to comply with any request or demand of an employer or client
that conflicts with this Code;
... Recommend to employers or clients other trackers or other expert
consultants upon encountering tracking problems beyond her/his own
competence;
An ISPT member shall not:
… Reveal confidential information, unless required by law;
Confidential information means tracking and non-tracking information gained
in the course of employment that the employer or client has requested be
held confidential, or the disclosure of which would be embarrassing, or would
be likely to be detrimental to the employer or client. Information ceases to
be confidential when the employer or client so indicates, or when such
information becomes publicly known.
